Application of sodium carbonate

Sodium carbonate is one of those materials that is widely used in industrial applications for the production or restructuring of chemicals. These applications include the following :
1. Making Glass
One of the most prominent uses of its hydrogen (Na2CO3) is the use in glass making. 2% of the global production of sodium carbonate is used in the industry, which results in glass lowering the glass formation temperature (from about 1700 degrees to 1500 degrees) and saving energy consumption, which is very practical and remarkable.

2. Chemical production
Sodium carbonate is also used a lot in chemical production. This material is used in various chemicals such as sodium bicarbonate, sodium silicate, sodium triple phosphate, sodium dichromate, sodium aluminate, sodium cyanide etc.

3. Paper production
In the paper industry, sodium carbonate is used as an acidity-regulating agent and also for the decolorization of tailings paper.

4. Soap production
Soda Ash plays an important role in the production of soap and is used as an alkaline agent.

5. Softening Water
Sodium carbonate is used in the industry to soften water. The presence of sodium carbonate in the ion exchange process removes calcium and magnesium ions from the water and reduces its hardness.

6. Urban Water Tanks
Its hydrogen-based compound structure has made it a popular additive in urban tanks to counteract the acidic effect of chlorine and increase pH.

7. Dyeing industry
In the dyeing industry, sodium carbonate is used as a bonding agent between dyes and fibers.

8. Food industry
For the production of some foods, this material is used as a pH regulator and often as a preservative.

9. Electrolysis
Its hydrate in water decomposition acts as an electrolyte which increases the rate of water decomposition.

10. Chemistry Laboratories
Sodium carbonate, abundantly found in chemistry laboratories, is often used as the primary standard in titration reactions.

11. Toothpaste
Another interesting application that we may all relate to everyday is the use of sodium carbonate in toothpaste structure. It is used as a pH-enhancing and foaming agent in toothpaste manufacturing.

12. Brick Making
Another very important application of this material is the use of brick making as a moisturizing agent in pulp production, which reduces the amount of water consumed.

13. Textile Industry
Sodium carbonate is also used in the textile industry as an anti-acid agent in silk processing.

14. Petrochemical and Crude Oil Refinery
Its sodium (Na2CO3) is used as a neutralizer in petrochemical processes.

15. Vegetable oil Refining
In the structure of vegetable oils due to the presence of fat, its soda is used as a detergent for free fatty acids.

16. Household Uses
In addition to the industrial uses mentioned above, sodium carbonate is also used for household purposes. One of the important uses of its hydrate is that it is used in the home as a water softener in the laundry, which counteracts the magnesium and calcium ions in the hard water and prevents the bonding between They are used with detergents. Without the use of sodium carbonate, the consumer is forced to use excess detergent to soak up magnesium and calcium ions, which cannot be justified and economical.

On the other hand, since this product is solid and capable of being soluble in water, it can cause environmental problems such as water pollution that must be addressed by the effects of water pollution by this product.
The main adverse effect of sodium carbonate on the environment is its effect on environmental pH. Therefore, the effect of sodium carbonate on the organisms present in the medium is largely dependent on the buffering capacity of the medium in which it is released. Experiments have shown that it is safe at concentrations below 100 mg / L. If the product is diluted to the environment before discharging, it will not even locally decrease the pH.

As for the safety properties of this product, it can be said that ingestion of this product is harmless unless it is very high. Boiling it may irritate the nose or throat. Contact with sensitive skin may cause itching or burning of the skin. Eye contact may cause irritation and redness in the eyes.

The adverse safety effects of this product are mainly due to its fine particles that may enter the nose, eyes or throat.
